Alberta Jean "Squeak" Gunhammer was born November 28, 1964 in Rosebud, South Dakota. She passed away November 7, 2013 at Daugherty House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at age 48.
Alberta received her formal education at St. Francis Indian School. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. "Squeak" as she was known by her family and friends, loved animals of all kind. She worked for general operations for many years at the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Office.
Preceding Alberta in death was sister Alvina Kills Enemy and Brothers Pete "Tony" Bordeaux and Darrin Bordeaux. She is survived by six children; Jody L. Little Elk, Frank A. Little Elk Jr., Arthur J. Little Elk, John A. Little Elk, Charles G. Little Elk III, and Alan C. Little Elk, 12 grandchildren; Jade M. Brave, Kendall D. Little Elk, McKenzie L. Traversie, Reign J. Little Elk, Jack B. Little Elk, Gilbert Little Elk, Stephanie M. Little Elk, Umpo Little Elk (deceased) Jalee Little Elk, KaShawn D. Little Elk, Iwoblu Maniwin "Stormy" Little Elk and Katana E. Little Elk. Also surviving are brothers and sisters; Harriet "Lynn" Marshall, Gerald W. Gunhammer, Tedene Kills Enemy-Rezendez, Jason Marshall, Darrell Marshall, and Bordeaux brothers and sisters.
A wake was held November 11th and 12th at Digmann Hall in St. Francis, SD. Funeral service was held Wednesday, November 13th at Digmann Hall in St. Francis, SD. Burial followed at Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Mission, South Dakota. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
