Obituary

Arthur Joseph Morgan, son of Jennings and Helen Morgan was born in Winner, SD on May 7, 1926. He passed away at the Cherry County Hospital on October 15, 2014.
Art attended grade schools in Winner, St. Francis and Littleburg, SD. He graduated high school in Mission, SD in 1944. After high school, Art spent one year working on the family ranch in Todd County before enlisting in the Army in 1945. He took Infantry Basic Training then clerk typist in Sendia, Japan. Art then went to Jump School to become a paratrooper with the Second Airborne Division. He was Honorably Discharged in December of 1946.
After his discharge from the Army, Art returned to work on the family ranch with his parents. He met Doris Jean Benes in Valentine and they later married on May 7, 1952 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mission, SD. To this union four children were born. Art and Doris celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on May 7, 2014.
Art was a member of the VFW in Valentine and the American Legion in Mission, SD.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Valentine; children, Laura Petersen
of Mission, SD, Bryan of Valentine, Debbie Logterman of Kilgore, NE, Diane Mangelsen of Sturgis, SD; two brothers, Clarence of Chadron, NE and Dale of Crookston, NE and one sister, Ruth Linabery of Crookston, NE. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Wylie of Elgin, NE and Della Morgan of Oklahoma City, OK.
He was precede in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne and Paul; sister, Shirley; grandsons, Dennis & Will Morgan and Roy Mangelsen and one granddaughter, Erin Logterman.
Funeral service for Art Morgan age 88 of Valentine will be held on Friday, Oct, 17 at 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Visitation will be on Thursday at 3:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday at St. Nicholas in Valentine. Mr. Morgan passed away on Wednesday at the Cherry Co. Hospital in Valentine
