IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Berdien
Morrison
April 13, 2019
Berdien Emma Morrison (Ohlmann) was called home by her Heavenly Father on April 13, 2019,
at the Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine, Nebraska. She was born to Albert and
Minnie Ohlmann (Riege) on September 4, 1933, in Crookston, Nebraska. She was both baptized
and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and remained strong in her faith and love of God, and
Christ her Savior throughout her life. She married Eldon Morrison, on April 17, 1954. God
blessed their marriage with five children, three sons and two daughters.
Berdien went to grade school in the German Settlement area near Crookston. She graduated
high school from Valentine High School. She and Eldon lived a few years in Washington State,
but lived the rest of their life in Valentine. She worked at and retired from the Farm Service
Agency ASCS office in Valentine.
Berdien was known for her dedication as an organist for Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in
Valentine. She almost always had an organ at home so she could play and practice her favorite
hymns whenever she wanted. Besides her dedication as an organist, Berdien was a member of
Grace's Ladies Aid organization. Berdien enjoyed great coffee and conversation with family and
friends—and especially enjoyed visiting with her sisters. She always made sure there was a pot
of coffee on and cookies in the cupboard. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the
joy of her life!
Berdien loved when the family was together, whether for holidays or just for a normal
weekend, gathered for a family meal or game of pinochle. Many evenings, she and Eldon would
play endless games of Farkle at the kitchen table. She also loved to garage sale, and would
often visit her sister Gertie in Omaha for prime garage sale expeditions in the big city. She also
loved to read; a good book and a set of devotions were always next to her recliner.
After Eldon's death, Berdien suffered a stroke and spent the rest of her days in an assisted living
facility and then moved to a nursing home as she needed more care. During this time, she
enjoyed visits from her family. She had a large set of extended family in the Valentine area, and
was visited by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Her nieces and nephews called her "Aunt Bean" and her great grandchildren called her
"Grandma-Great." Her eyes would especially light up whenever visitors would bring the little
kids around, and she especially loved to hold the babies.
Berdien was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eldon in 2010, brother Robert
Ohlmann, sister Ramona May, brothers-in-law Dan May and Wayne Horn, many brothers- and
sisters-in-law on Eldon's side of the family, an infant son, and two grandchildren—Cole Soester
and Will Morgan.
Berdien is survived by four children: Dan (Kay) Morrison, Marge (Bryan) Morgan, Karen
Morrison, and Rex Morrison; grandchildren, Krista Morrison, Mike (Mandi) Morrison, Jered
(Alissa) Morrison, Julie (Bob) Sinclair, Tyler Morgan, Brandon Morgan, Heidi Russell and Emily
(Chad) Hemenway; and great-grandchildren, Mataya and Mali Morrison, Courtny, Jennings, and
Tee Morgan, Breianna and Milo Sinclair, Amelia Morrison, and Hadlee Hemenway; her sister
Gertie Horn; sister-in-law Geri Ohlmann, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
