Obituary for Carol Louise (Adkisson) Hammer May 7, 1946 – April 30, 2026
Carol Louise (Adkisson) Hammer lived a life defined by love, connection, and an unwavering devotion to her family. Born on May 7, 1946, in York, Nebraska, she brought light and joy into the lives of those around her from the very beginning and she never stopped.
Carol grew up with a spirit of curiosity and adventure, spending her childhood outdoors, making memories that reflected her playful nature and resilience. From those early years, it was clear she had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys, something she carried with her always.
She graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1964 and briefly attended the University of Nebraska before beginning a life centered on family, work, and service to others.
In 1971, Carol married Roger Hammer. Together they began building a family, and although their marriage later ended, that chapter of her life remained an important part of her story.
Carol’s greatest pride and purpose was being a mother. She was the devoted mother of seven children, pouring her heart into raising them with love, strength, and care. She relished every moment of motherhood, from sewing clothes and costumes, to teaching, nurturing, and guiding her children through every stage of life. Her home was a place of warmth, creativity, and constant activity.
Her love only grew deeper as she became a grandma. Nothing brought Carol more joy than her grandchildren. She cherished every laugh, every visit, every milestone, and every memory made with them. Her family was the center of her world.
Carol also carried her caring spirit and deep faith in her Savior into everything she did. She was deeply involved in her church as a musician, playing piano and organ, teaching Sunday school, and sharing her beautiful voice as a soloist. She gave of herself generously, always willing to help others in times of need.
Professionally, Carol combined her talents and her love of people through her work in sewing and fabric. What began as creating garments for others grew into a lifelong passion and career. As owner of Country Fabrics & Crafts, she built more than a business, she built relationships. She never met a stranger, and her genuine kindness, warmth, and ability to connect with others made everyone feel welcome. Her customers often became dear friends.
In 2013, Carol married Dennis Ahrens, adding more love and family to her life. Together they shared meaningful time, including cherished trips and quiet moments that brought her happiness.
Carol lived fully and loved deeply. She was endlessly positive, upbeat, and giving, someone who would do anything for anyone. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone she had just met, Carol welcomed you with open arms and her trademark smile.
She treasured every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, husband, friends, church, and community. Her life was rich with love, and her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd & Margaret Adkisson, her brother & sister in law, Bob & Barb Adkisson, her niece, Lisa McMahill, and her daughter, Maria Louise Hammer.
Carol is survived by her husband, Dennis Ahrens; her six children and their families: Matthew, Julee, Timothy (Jessica), Benjamin (Leaha), Nicholas, and Curtis. Her beloved grandchildren: Rowen, Kayden, Abraham, Harper, Aurora, Carsyn, and Allister. Her stepchildren: Marit, Alana, Kendra, Stephanie; and step-grandchildren: Hannah, Colby, Tenley, Eva, Addyson, and Elanor. Her sisters Jane (David) McMahill and Marilyn Olsen, and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
She will be remembered always for her boundless love, her generous spirit, and the joy she brought into the world.
“The impossible just takes a little longer.”
