Carolyn Janice Swanson

Carolyn Janice Swanson was born on July 29, 1938 to Jenus Swanson and Theresa (Reimers) Swanson in Valentine, Nebraska. After six years of fighting breast cancer, she departed this life on August 13, 2011, at the age of 73.

Carolyn spent her early years on the family ranch southeast of Valentine. After a few years of living in Ainsworth, she returned to Valentine where she worked and retired in 2009. She worked various jobs including twenty years at the Home Café and twenty one and a half years at Pine View.

Carolyn was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Valentine. She spent most of her time with the church's Ladies Aid group, sewing, ceramics and collecting dolls. Carolyn was well known for her abilities in decorating cakes and cookies for family and friends in the Valentine area.

Carolyn is survived by two brothers Edward (Scherry) Swanson of Valentine, and LaVern (Jessica) Swanson of Ft. Collins, CO; seven nieces and nephews; an aunt Donna Reimers of Valentine; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gerald, her sister Pearl and her uncle Calvin.

Funeral service for Carolyn Swanson was held on Wednesday, August 17 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Valentine. Pastor Luke Bernthal officiated at the 10:00 AM service. Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of service arrangements.
