Obituary

Catherine E. Bristol, 102, died of natural causes on Feb. 7, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.
She was born to Ernest and Ida (Archer) Bowden in Valentine, NE on Sept. 13, 1909. She married Glen Bristol on Oct. 12, 1929.
Catherine, nicknamed "Dolly" because of her curly hair, grew up in the Kewanee Community where she walked alongside her siblings on a dirt road to attend Kewanee Grade School. She went on to graduate from Valentine High School in 1929.
Following graduation, Dolly married Glen and later they had one daughter, JoAnn. They lived on the Bristol Homestead until 1979 when they moved to Valentine, NE.
Dolly was active in the Kewanee Community for most of her life. In recognition of her length of service, Dolly received a 50 year pin from the Extension Club and the United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Dolly was also a member of Ladies Aid.
Dolly enjoyed visiting and quilting with her friends at the Sparks Church Activity room and visiting her sister in Oregon with her husband. Dolly's creative quilts and afghans can be found across the country in the homes of her loved ones.
Later, Dolly enjoyed tours to Australia and Alaska.
Dolly is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Bristol) Anthony of Lee's Summit; sister-in-law, Gyla Bowden of Lincoln; and granddaughters, Cynthia Anthony, Pamela Anthony and husband Dr. David Theiss, and Cheri Anthony; great grandchildren: Brad and and his wife, Tara Houx, Eric and Lisa Zimmermann, and Robert Bergstone; great-great grandchild James Houx; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen Bristol; sisters, Virginia Gallagher, Katie Bowden, Lillie Colburn; brothers, Freeman Bowden and Charles Bowden; and son-in-law, Robert Anthony.
Funeral services for Dolly will be at 11a.m. on Monday, February 13 at the United Methodist Church, 804 East 5th Street, Valentine, NE 69201 with viewing the hour before. Following the services will be a lunch in honor of Dolly's memory at the United Methodist Church.
