Registered Herefords became part of the herd, selling a few registered bulls and heifers over the years. Purebred Herefords were a passion and Dale and Viola went on several Hereford Tours including the International Hereford Tour in 1996.

He was a member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, Nebraska and American Hereford Association, American Quarterhorse Association, Sandhills Cattle Association, American Legion Post #90 and NRA.

He trained to become a Cherry County Reserve Deputy and served for 25 years. He was proud to be a part of the volunteers that assisted the Cherry County Sheriff.

Dale and Viola followed the sports and other school activities of their Grandchildren over the years, seldom ever missing an event. They were named Badger Booster Fans of the Year in 2012.
