Obituary

Debra Jo (Scott) Neiffer was born March 26, 1955 in Lincoln, NE to Jack and Bethine (Smith) Scott of Ashland, NE. At nine months of age the family moved south of Cody, NE. Here Deb was baptized at Nenzel Methodist Church. She attended grade school several places in South Dakota, including Long Valley, and also in California. She graduated from Holtville High, in Holtville California in 1973. She attended South Dakota State University for one year.
On April 4, 1976 she was married to Monty Neiffer in Long Valley, SD. Deb and Monty lived near Agar, SD; Greeley, CO; Alpena, SD; Huron, SD; Miller, SD; and Hot Springs, SD in the early years of their marriage. In the fall of 1982, they moved to Valentine, NE. Deb and Monty were blessed with two children, Shelly - born 1979 in Hot Springs, and Miles - born 1983 in Valentine, NE.
Deb worked at the U.S. Post Office for 10 years, until 1994 when she left to be a full-time mother for a few years. For the last 12 years she worked at the Cherry County Clerk's Office, most recently as the Deputy Clerk.
Deb was involved in many activities in the Valentine community. She played softball both in Valentine and Hot Springs where she made life-long friends. She completed the Master Gardener program and helped many, many people with landscaping, plants and trees, and gardening. She loved home repair and remodeling projects and was always eager to learn a new skill around the house. Deb was a mentor to many children at Valentine Elementary School over the years. Deb took great joy in spending time with her "reader kids." Deb also enjoyed puzzles, quilting, decorating, genealogy, Book Club, and cheering on the Huskers, the Royals, and of course the Badger wrestling team. Deb was also dedicated to her faith and she found joy in using her immense talent and generosity for Our Savior Lutheran Church whenever she could. More than anything Deb loved spending time and doing projects with her family and her three wonderful grandchildren.
Debra Jo Neiffer went to be with her Savior on October 25, 2014 at her home near Valentine, NE with her family by her side.
