Donald W. Schroeder was born May 5, 1931 in Meadow Grove, Nebraska to Herman and Josephine (Werner) Schroeder. He grew up in the Meadow Grove area where he attended elementary school and graduated high school with the class of 1949.
Don married Donna O'Banion October 3, 1959 in Ainsworth, NE. They made their home in the Meadow Grove area until moving to Valentine in 1986. They were blessed with three children Scot, Jacqi and Dirk. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Duck's Unlimited and the NRA.
After his health failed Don became a resident of Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine, where he passed away September 7, 2015, at age 84. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Josephine Schroeder. He is survived by his wife Donna of Valentine, son Scot Schroeder of Meadow Grove, daughter Jacqi Witte of Valentine and Dirk (Danielle) Schroeder formerly of Valentine, also surviving are grandchildren Julian Witte, Toby Witte, Colton Schroeder and Braden Schroeder. A prayer service was held Wednesday, September 9th at 2:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine. Funeral service was held Thursday, September 10th at 1:00PM at St. Matthew Lutheran church in Meadow Grove, Nebraska with burial following at the Lutheran Cemetery. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines and Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home were entrusted with funeral arrangements.
