Dorothy Irene Savage, 92, of Shelton,NE passed away February 5, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ravenna, NE. She was born October 3, 1920, near Kilgore, NE to Cecil and Norma (Horner) Hart. She attended rural elementary school and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1937. On October 29, 1940, she married Cecil R. Savage in Valentine, NE.

Besides being Cecil's right-hand partner with ranching in the Kilgore area for forty years, Dorothy was an accomplished quilt-maker as well as doing many other types of needlework. There was never a craft project that she wouldn't try to learn and do. She had been a member of the neighborhood Sew and So Club south of Kilgore for many years. She belonged to the Shelton United Methodist Church and to the Cody American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy is survived by her son Ralph and wife Judith Savage of Shelton, NE: daughter Gaylene Taylor of Avoca, IA; grandchildren Tim and wife Sharon Savage of Edgerton, KS; Jay and wife Laura Taylor of West Des Moines, IA; Cynthia and husband Kyle Catt of Panama, NE; Troy and wife Cris Taylor of Waukee, IA; Staci and husband Darin Greunke of Winside, NE; Christine Johannsen of Louisville, NE; Darci and husband Aaron Kester of Gilbert, IA; ten great-grandchildren; brothers Donald Hart of Hooper, NE; Kenneth Hart of Mesa, AZ; and sister Shirley Hand of Fremont, NE.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; youngest daughter Donna Savage; son-in-law Marvin Taylor; and sister Vivian Savage.

Funeral service will be held February 9, 2013, at the Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, NE with burial in the Kilgore Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Cody American Legion Auxiliary or to the Valentine Senior Center.
