Obituary

Eileen Fox Weston, daughter of Ruth Ella Fox and Earl Weston, was born on December 4, 1922 in the family ranch home northwest of Springview, NE.  She attended the one room Lost Creek country school and then graduated from Keya Paha County High School in 1939 at the age of 16.  That fall she enrolled in Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and earned a B. A. with majors in English and Library Science, and minors in French, German, and Spanish in June 1943.  In September of that year she enlisted in the US Navy WAVES and completed boot camp at Hunter College in New York City before attending Yeoman School in Cedar Falls, IA.  She was assigned to the Registered Publications Issuing Office as a cryptographer in San Francisco until discharge in December 1945.

In 1950 she married Donald Lee Beman of Valentine and this union was blessed with five children: Scott, Dru, Craig, David, and Bryan.

Eileen was an avid reader and she loved to knit, crochet and do needlework, paint and sculpt.  Each day she walked a mile, well into her 90's and organized a one-woman crew to clean up roadsides. She enjoyed music and played the piano and organ.

Eileen was unceasingly civic-minded and volunteered to do her part in many organizations, including United Methodist Church, American Legion and Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Valentine Schools Board of Education, Valentine Library Board, PTA, Eight and Forty, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cherry County Hospital Auxiliary, Sandpainters Art Guild, and  American Association of University Women.  She frequently served as an officer at local, district and state levels for the organizations.  While she was on the school board, two new elementary schools were built, a new library while on the library board and she was on the building committee to construct the United Methodist Church.

Twice a month she hosted a Friday coffee group for ladies in Valentine. She and Don traveled throughout the US and went to Europe.  They were always on the road to attend graduations, baptisms, anniversaries and family reunions.

On Tuesday, July 16, 2019 she passed away peacefully at Pine View Manor in Valentine, NE at 96 years of age.

Survivors include Scott, Dru (Ken) Sypal, Craig (Peggy), and David.  Grandchildren John, Christine (Ed), Joe (Jessica), Catherine Sypal, Lisa (Chris) Walker and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, son Bryan, granddaughter Apryl, brothers John Earl, Bill and sister Maxine.

The funeral service was held on Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Valentine United Methodist Church. The burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine.  Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was in charge of service arrangements.
