Obituary

Evan James Wiley, 75 of Crookston, NE was taken as one of God's Angels on Saturday, October 19, 2013.
Evan was born on August 20, 1938, in Ainsworth, NE to Thelma and Leonard Wiley. The family moved to Norfolk, NE before he was of school age. He attended school in the Norfolk area up through 8th grade. After the 8th grade, he left school to find work and help support the family. He worked for various local farmers up until the age of 18 when he joined the Navy with his twin brother Ivan. He was in the Navy from 1957-1961.
During his time in the Navy, he met his sweetheart, Sondra Hand. They married on May 27, 1961 in Phoenix, AR. They then moved to Valentine, NE where he worked several years for various local ranchers. After their daughter's Suzan and Sherry were born they moved to Omaha, NE to find jobs that could help provide better financial support while Suzan needed medical help.
While Evan was able to find several good jobs in the city, the country was calling him back. He wanted to be a rancher and have his own herd of cattle. So, they bought some property near Gretna, NE and started to build his herd. While he was now out in the country……. It was not the SANDHILLS. In 1975 Evan and Sondra sold their place in Gretna and moved back to Valentine.
From 1975 to 2012, Evan lived out his life in the Valentine, NE area. Shortly after moving back to Valentine, he began working as a custodian for the Valentine Rural High School. He worked for 30 years before retiring and spending all but the last 9 months working on his Heart W Ranch, Southwest of Crookston, NE.
