Florence Garner (Floss) went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013

Floss, 77, was born on July 24, 1936, in Lincoln, NE to Grace and Forrest Lee but spent most of her life at the family's ranch five miles north of Brownlee, NE. As a young girl, Floss went to a country school until 8th grade when she attended St. Mary's high school in O'Neill, NE. After graduation she attended the University of Nebraska where she received her teaching degree in elementary education. On September 30, 1958, she married Jerry Garner. While Jerry finished college, Floss taught school. A year later they moved back to the ranch where they managed the day to day operations.

Floss was a caretaker and keen observer of God's creation. Over the course of her life she took thousands of photographs of sunrises, sunsets, and the deer coyotes, and other critters that roamed thee Nebraska Sandhills she loved. She also photographed and documented several hundred native flowers.

Floss was known for her feisty attitude and strong opinions. She loved words and always had a story to tell or an opinion to share. She wrote poetry and was an avid reader.

Floss, Jerry and Tony were active in Holistic Resources Management (HRM) a decision-making framework which results in ecologically regenerative, economically viable and socially sound management of the world's grasslands. She took great pride in documenting "before" and "after" photographs that showed how their practices improved the land.

Floss is preceded in death by her mother and father, Grace and Forrest Lee; her sister, Jacqueline Tiehen and her husband Jerry.

She is survived by her son Tony; her sisters Carolyn Nollette and Dorothy Lee and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial service was held on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 2:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine.
