Frances Boje Nieuwenhuis

Frances Claussen was born July 23, 1916 in Bloomfield, Nebraska to Herman and Clara (Popenhagen) Claussen. As a small girl Frances along with her parents and her grandfather Frank Popenhagen moved from Bloomfield by covered wagon to their farm 5 miles South East of Rosebud, South Dakota. Frances attended school in Rosebud where she graduated from the eighth grade.

Frances married Glen Boje March 4, 1937. They were blessed with three children Kenneth, Dwight and Shirley. Glen passed away in March of 1977. On April 7, 1979, Frances was united in marriage to Herman Nieuwenhuis and they made their home in Valentine. Herman passed away August 22, 1994. Frances was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church and a member of Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Frances departed this life on her birthday July 23, 2012. She was 96 years old. Preceding her in death were her parents Herman and Clara Claussen, husbands Glen Boje and Herman Nieuwenhuis, son Kenneth Boje and brother Glen Claussen. Survivors include son Dwight Boje of Bowling Green, Kentucky and daughter Shirley Boje of Valentine. Also surviving are grandchildren Sean Boje of Valentine, Buck Boje and children Cass and Karly of North Platte, NE, Sheri (Ted) Brewer and children Jerad & Jessi Wallace all of North Platte, Kristi Livermont and children DaCota, Caitlin and Chloe and Jamie Boje all of Rapid City, South Dakota,

Funeral service for Frances Nieuwenhuis was held Thursday, July 26th at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Luke Bernthal officiated at the 2:00 P.M. service. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with funeral arrangements
