Frank Isadore Schubauer was born October 31, 1928 to Maximillian and Martha (Borszich) Schubauer in rural Todd County South Dakota. He was delivered by mid wife, Grandma Borszich. He passed away March 3, 2013 at Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine, NE.
Frank was born fourth in a family of 8 children. He grew up on the family farm 18 miles north of Valentine along Highway 83. He attended the Midway School through the eighth grade. He then helped his Father on the farm until 1948. Frank and his brother Melvin went into partnership on the old Borszich place in the Lakeview community in 1949.
Frank was a member of the United States Marine Corp from 1951 until he was honorably discharged in 1953. He was stationed in Korea and served as a radio operator, near the truce corridor. He got back to the U.S. on the day they signed the truce. He then returned home and resumed farming.
He married Beverly Joyce Witte on June 4, 1955. To this union 4 children were born; Donald, James, Janet, and Jonathan. Beverly passed away December 30, 1997. He married Ferne on November 17, 2001.
Frank moved to Valentine in 1961 and worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1997. As you look around the community you can see many houses and business places that he helped build or remodel. Frank was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Frank was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, wife Beverly, infant son James, 4 sisters who died in infancy, and sisters Ruth Williams and Rose Eileen Bruce, brothers Theodore and Otto.
He is survived by his wife Ferne, son Don (Judy) of Valentine, daughter Janet (John) Cerv of Milburo, SD, and son Jonathan and fiance' Kelly of Gering, NE, six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one step-daughter, and two step-sons, brother Melvin and Gregory Schubauer and sister Monica Francke.
Funeral service for Frank Schubauer will be held at 11:00 AM Wed. March 6th at Zion Lutheran Church in Valentine. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
