Harley Aloid Homan age 77 of Crookston NE passed away April 14, 2014 at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE.
Harley was born to Aloid and Annabell (Harless) Homan, at the Homan Ranch west of Crookston, NE on August 4, 1936. Harley lived south of Sparks, Ne
until he was seven years of age at which time his parents purchased the ranch at Crookston from Martin and Elsie Homan. Harley attended the North Star Country School near the ranch and then continued his education and in Crookston, NE until the middle of his junior year when he transferred to Valentine. He graduated in 1954 from Valentine High School. Harley then attended college at Chadron State Teachers College in Chadron, NE where he met Jane Burke of White River, SD in his junior year. Harley and Jane were married on May 29, 1957 in White River, SD. To this union three children were born, Joseph Aloid, Leanna Jane, and Douglas Harley. Harley and Jane resided at a ranch north of Kilgore, NE from 1960 thru 1985 at which time they moved to their current ranch north east of Crookston, NE.
Through out his years Harley was president of the Cherry County Angus Association, spent several years as the President of the Crookston School Board, in his younger years he enjoyed skiing at Merritt Dam and Alkali Lake, he enjoyed many years of bowling on a league in Valentine and assisted with the youth bowling program.
Harley was known to pull many pranks such as jumping out at a person in the dark, giving you a wet willie, or tickling you till you said uncle.
Harley is preceded in death by his parents Aloid and Annabell, brother-in-law W. Gale Rumpeltes, and niece Geri Lyn Bowhay. Harley is survived by wife Jane of Crookston, son Joe of Crookston, daughter Leanna Hazen and husband Alan of Bayard, NE, and son Doug and wife Cindy of Crookston. Grandchildren Tanya (Hazen) Cluck husband Josh and children Demarius and Scarlett of Wahoo, NE, Chad Hazen and daughter Rylee of Scottsbluff, NE, Samantha (Homan) Amirfathi husband Shahin and children Dante and Ekho of Wahoo, NE, Brandon Homan of Kearney, NE, Casey Homan of Kearney, NE, and Jesse Homan Crookston.
Also surviving is brother Jerry and family of Salibury, MO; sister Lyn Rumpeltes and family of Beatrice, NE, sister Gail Schleve and family of Morrill, NE and many cousins, friends and extended family.
Services held at 10 am Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Presbyterian Church with Pastor Andrew Utech officiating. Internment Mount Hope Cemetery Valentine, Ne.
