Funeral service for Harry Spall age 89 of Valentine will be held on Wed. April 24 at 10:00 AM at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Visitation will be on Tuesday starting at 3:00 PM with a prayer service and life celebration at 7:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine. Mr. Spall passed away on Sunday at the Cherry Co. Hospital.

Harry Allen Spall was born at home in Cornish, CO, April 28, 1923, to Albert and LuEmma (Spain) Spall. He attended school in Cornish, CO and joined the Navy in 1942 at the age of 19 years. Harry was aboard the USS Otter and USS Creed during WWII. Discharged in 1947, Harry returned home where he was a parts man and attended meat cutting training.
Valentine became his home in 1949. Harry filled the roles as a hired man, butcher, game warden, and Maintenance Engineer at the Post Office (retired in 88'). After retirement, Harry maintained the Cherry County Fairgrounds for several years, volunteered at the senior center, and food pantry. He was an active leader in the Presbyterian Church as a Deacon and Elder, Lions Club, American Legion, Badger Boosters, and Boy Scouts . Harry was featured as a Hometown hero, received a Modern Woodmen Award in 1995, nominated for an Aksarben award, and was awarded the Pat Murphy Award in 1977 and Valentine City Schools and Community in 1991 and 1994..
On August 7, 1955, Harry and Naomi (Hutchison) Spall were united in marriage and he proudly became the father to three children: Cheryl, Mary Jo, and Rick. Harry and Naomi had three children: Allen, Joe, and Lori. Naomi passed away on November 2, 1993.
Harry and Mary (Lebsack) Spall were married on September 6, 1997. He was given the gift of five more children: Eric, Mike, Tom, Melissa and Mitch.
He continued to serve his community even after his health began declining. Harry made Valentine and Christmas cards for Veterans, and many friends and family have ceramics that were painted by Harry.
Harry passed away peacefully on April 21, 2013, at Cherry County Hospital with family by his side.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and LuEmma, wife (Naomi), son-in-law (Jim Huey), two grandchildren (Michael and Tonya), three brothers, (Walt, Lester, and John) and five sisters (Vesta, Thelma, Ester, Helen, and Mary Etta).
Harry touched countless lives as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by wife Mary Spall.

Fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful friends.
There will be a prayer service/life celebration on Tuesday, April 23rd at 7:00 PM at Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday prior to the prayer service.
Funeral service will be at the Presbyterian Church 325 N. Victoria Street in Valentine, Nebraska at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 24th.
Harry led a life of great service to his community, strong love for his family, and was a caring and loving husband.
