Herbert Lloyd Lurz was born September 22, 1930 in Valentine, Nebraska.  He was one of 7 children born to Joseph Sr. and Edith (Jaycox) Lurz.  Herbert attended Harmony Grade School and graduated from Valentine High School.

Herbert and Eletha Sharp were married January 7, 1956 in Valentine.  They made their home north of valentine where they were engaged in ranching.  This marriage was blessed with two children, Bill and Sharon.  Herbert enjoyed his life on the ranch.  His greatest joy was his family and he was an avid Nebraska Football fan.

Herbert passed away May 18, 2020 at Pine View Good Samaritan in Valentine at age 89.  He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Edith, Brothers Howard Lurz, Joe Lurz Jr., Gilbert Lurz and Dwayne Lurz and Sister Lois Victor.  He is survived by wife Eletha, son Bill Lurz and daughter Sharon Beirow, grandchildren Amy Murray, Kim McKinney and Erica Bartels.  Also surviving are seven great grandchildren and Brother Ivan Lurz.

A graveside service for Herbert Lurz was held Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Harmony Cemetery north of Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with service arrangements.
