Ida Rose Shelbourn age 89 of Valentine, NE passed away April 5, 2016. She was born June 1, 1926 in Valentine, NE to Charles Hagedorn and Nettie (Allen) Hagedorn. Ida Rose was raised and went to country schools in the Sparks, NE area. She graduated from Valentine High School in 1944 and taught grade school at Shadley Creek and Sand Creek Schools for one term each in Cherry County.
Ida Rose married Donald Shelbourn April 6, 1946 in Valentine, NE and they had two sons, Merle and Jim. Ida Rose and Donald purchased land in Lakeview, SD and worked the ranch together for 36 years until Donald's death in 1985. While on the ranch Ida Rose and Donald spent many hours supporting the Todd County 4-H program and participating in their children's and grandchildren's 4-H projects. Ida loved her large family and enjoyed having nieces and nephews stay at the ranch and help with her large garden and hayfield in the summer. After Donald's death, Ida moved to Valentine and enjoyed many visits from grandchildren and great grandchildren and working in her flower garden. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women Organization and the Legion Auxiliary, all in Valentine, NE.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents Charles and Nettie Hagedorn; brothers: Cleo and Amos; sister, Ilene Junod.
Ida Rose is survived by her sons; Merle (Terry) Shelbourn of Valentine, NE and Jim (Jeanntte) Shelbourn of Lakeview, SD; siblings: Clem Hagedorn of Florida; Charles Hagedorn of California and Mary Blake of Colorado; grandchildren: Scott (Janet) Shelbourn; Kim Shelbourn Vickroy and Steve and Wayne Shelbourn, Eric Reese and Ruthie Reese Tinant; great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
Memorial for Ida Rose may be made to the United Methodist Church in Valentine, NE.
Memorial service for Ida Rose Shelbourn was held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Valentine. Pastor Corey Jenkins officiated at the 2:00 P.m. service. Inurnment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
