Graveside service for Ilene Shelbourn age 81 of Valentine will be held on Tuesday, April 20 th at 2:00 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Mrs. Shelbourn passed away on April 16 th at her home in Valentine. Visitation will be on Monday, April 19 th at 6:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines.
Reception will follow at the Niobrara Lodge in Valentine
Marjorie "Ilene" Shelbourn was born April 23, 1939 to Elmer and Margaret (Mayfield) Fernen in rural Todd County, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm north of Valentine and attended school in Todd County, graduating from high school in 1956.
She met George Shelbourn at the Old Settlers Reunion and they were married December 20, 1956. They spent 51 very happy years together until George's passing in 2008. She was a dedicated and loving mother to Vicky, Cindy, Jerry and Diane and grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
At the age of 27, she realized her need for a Savior and committed her life to Jesus. Throughout her life she held an unwavering faith in the Lord, which she shared with those who surrounded her. Ilene was known for her passion to see others come to know the Lord and her strong prayers for others in their times of happiness and needs. She was an encouragement to her family and friends in their walk with the Lord.
Ilene was a custodian and bus driver for Littleburg School for 29 years. Her school was a tribute to her dedication and hard work. The school grounds with several beautiful flower beds were enjoyed by many.
Ilene went to be with Jesus in Heaven on April 16, 2021 in Valentine, NE.
Leaving behind to celebrate her life: Jerry (Lori) Shelbourn of Valentine; Vicky Wanless (Don) of Chadron, NE; Diane Clark (Darold) of Lennox, SD; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren: along with many extended family members and friends.
She was welcomed by her husband George, daughter Cindy, parents Elmer and Margaret Fernen, brothers Larry and Jim Fernen in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
