Obituary

Iris June Miller was born June 27, 1929, at their home near Belmont, Nebraska, to Glen and Amy (Tollman) Miller. She received her early education at Belmont School. She graduated from high school in Crawford, Nebraska in 1947.
She married her high school sweetheart Leo F. Chubb on July 8, 1951 while Leo was home on leave from the army. They got to spend three weeks together, and then Leo had to leave for Korea. After 14 months they finally were reunited and could start their married life together. They celebrated 65 years together July 8, 2016. This union was blessed with two daughters Susan and Barbara.
Iris and Leo moved to Valentine in 1958. She spent the early years busy as a wife and stay at home mother. She enjoyed sewing and made many clothes for her girls. Sewing eventually turned into quilting and she made many beautiful quilts. She was a founding member of the Emanon Extension Club, liked playing bridge and having coffee with friends. For several years Leo and Iris owned and enjoyed working together at Chubb's Thom McAn Shoe Store. And later working at The First National Bank of Valentine.
Iris passed away April 3, 2017, at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Amy Miller, sister Phyllis Garber, and brother Eldon Miller. Iris is survived by husband Leo F Chubb of Valentine, Nebraska. Daughters Susan (Mark) Custer of Alliance Nebraska, Barbara (Jim) Harms of Valentine, Nebraska. Grandchildren Travis (Shantel) Lurz of Alliance , Nebraska, Brittany ( Garrett) Schroeder of Grand Island, Nebraska, John (Alicia) Harms of Valentine, Nebraska, Heather (Kody) Mizner of Valentine, Nebraska, Matthew Custer of Emporia, Kansas, & Mitchell Custer of Manhattan, Kansas. And Three Great Grandchildren Hunter, Kayleigh, and Sophia Harms, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Iris Chubb age 87 of Valentine will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Valentine. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, April 7 at 2:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines.
