Isla Dawn Drinkwalter was born December 11, 1933 in Cody NE to Wallace and Isabell Hamit. She died November 15, 2021 in Cody, NE. She grew up in the Kilgore area. She attended school in Kilgore and went on to college at Chadron Normal School. She met George in January 1953 and they were married August 22, 1953. They were married 58 years. In this time they had four boys Darrell, Keith, Randy, and Steve.
Grandma would say, "If you're gonna go out, you better do it right." She would show up early with her hair, nails, lipstick and matching accessories. She loved her family fiercely. She was a hard worker, but in her free time you could find her at a sporting event. She was an avid reader and shared her passion with her grandchildren piled in her lap. She was a great cook and was known to pull out cinnamon rolls if you stopped in. Grandma was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Isla was preceded in death by; her parents, Wallace and Isabell Hamit, Husband: George Drinkwalter, Great granddaughter: Mckenzie, Sister: Judy Crawford, Brothers: Raymond Hamit, Nick Hamit, and David Hamit. She is survived by her sons Darrell (Donna) Of Casper Wy, Keith (Linda) of Sundance, NE, Steve of Casper WY; Randy of Cody NE, Brother: Larry Hamit, Leeton MO. Sisters: Carol Rodriguez, Victorville CA, Barbara Helmick of St. John KS, Linda Ehlers of Lincoln NE, Polly Burfiend of Sheridan Wy. Eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Funeral service for Isla Drinkwalter age 91 of Cody, will be held on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021 at 10:00 AM CT the United Methodist Church in Valentine. Burial will follow at Prairie lawn Cemetery in Cody. Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 18 th from 5-7 CT at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines. Mrs. Drinkwalter passed at her home in Cody.
