Obituary
Jack Edward Harp was born September 28th, 1950 in Valentine, NE to Alice (Havemann) and Carmen Harp. Jack grew up on a farm in Hidden Timber, SD on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. Jack went to McCormick and Klein Schools for elementary. He graduated from Todd County High School in 1969. He worked various jobs, including the Cheese Plant in Mission, SD before moving back to Hidden Timber to help with the family Dairy Farm.
Jack met and married Kathleen "Kathie" Seymour on October 2nd, 1982. To this union one son was born, Adam Joel.
Jack moved to Burke, SD where he lived with Kathie and his family. He worked for a local farm for many years before starting his own Small Engine Repair Shop in 1989. He later worked for the local Implement Dealership in Burke, SD and the Hospital in Maintenance. He could work on or fix just about anything and many people would ask him to fix many different things. Jack enjoyed working with his son, Adam. It didn't matter if it was an engine or a block of wood; that time was special for them both. He had many hobbies which included; Hunting, Fishing, Wood Working and Metal Working.
Jack passed away on June 14th, 2017 in Rapid City, SD at the Rapid City Regional Hospital after a long battle with cancer and heart complications.
Jack is survived by his son, Adam Harp and wife Chelsea of Forest City, IA. Granddaughters, Emma Rose and Evie Marie Mae; Grandson, Eden Edward; Stepdaughter, Leah Kortmeyer of Cape Girardeau, MO; Stepson, Alan Kortmeyer and wife Carolyn of Seward, NE. He also leaves to mourn; his Brother, James Harp, Sister Betty Meils and husband Mike, Sister, Delores Harp, Brother; Chuck Harp and wife Janice, Sister, Rose Hunt and husband Wayne. Jack was preceded in death by his Father, Carmen Harp, his Mother, Alice Harp and his wife, Kathleen "Kathie" Harp.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 22nd, 2017 at 11am at the Valentine United Methodist Church in Valentine, NE. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Valentine. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine was entrusted with service arrangements.
