James Bennett Johnson was born May 9, 1936 in Arnold, Nebraska to Arthur B. and Nedra (Brenneman) Johnson.  He received his early formal education at Gandy, NE and then graduated high school at Curtis Technical School in Curtis, NE. After graduating from high school he attended Chadron State College.

James married Jacquelyn Helmer on May 31, 1962 at Gandy, NE.  This union was blessed with five Children.

James was a rancher and raised registered Quarter horses.  He was a member of the Legion, Elks, Arthur Roping Club and served on the Arthur County School Board.  He enjoyed reading, puzzles, playing cards, team roping and calf roping

James passed away September 13, 2021 at his home north of Cody, NE.  He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Nedra Johnson, son George and four sisters; Arlene Hill, JoAnn Gaites, Jean Kramer and Janice Marie Johnson.

He is survived by wife, Jacquelyn; of Cody, NE, his four children, Judy (Randy) Starke, Patty (Dan) Powers, Jay Johnson, Christy (Jonathan) Ross; his grandchildren Brittany (Jason) Becher, Derek (Lindsay) Powers; Ben (Becca) Ross, Josh Powers, Nathan, Rachel and Emilee Ross.  Also surviving is his brother Jerry (Donna) Johnson.

Graveside service for James B. Johnson was held at 2:00, Saturday, September 18 ^th , 2021 at McCain Cemetery at Stapleton, NE.  Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with arrangements.
