A Mass of Christian Burial for Joan L. Whiting age 73 of Enid will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. R.K. Mankena officiating. A second service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Mission, SD. Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Mission, SD. Local arrangements by Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine, NE.
Joan was born September 5, 1939 in Mission, SD to John and Alice Kerbell Hamling and passed away July 11, 2013 in the Greenbrier Skilled Nursing Center. She grew up and attended the Misson High School graduating in 1956. She married Richard Whiting on June 28, 1956 and he passed away on February 28, 1998. Joan worked for a grocery store and the Todd County in Mission, SD. Joan moved to Enid in1998 where she worked for Family Dollar and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Joan is survived by her sons; Randy Whiting and Preston Whiting both of Enid and Matt Whiting of Salt Lake City, Utah, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, a brother John Ray Hamling and a sister Donna Mae Fernen both of Seattle, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Rick Whiting, and a sister Darlene Brie.
