Joyce Elaine Scranton Schlueter, devoted mother and friend to many, was called home on May 5, 2019  from the Cherry County Hospital.

Joyce was born February 28, 1929 in Plainview, Nebraska to Ed and Hattie Scranton.  She lived in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1947. She continued her education at the Norfolk School of Beauty, graduating in 1948.  She moved to Valentine and established her career as a beautician.  She eventually owned and operated her own shop, Aladdin's Lamp Salon until retiring in 1978.  Joyce was active in Business & Professional Women's Association, Zion Lutheran Ladies' Aid, Garden Club, Red Hats, Quilt Guild, Centennial Hall Board, Cherry County Historical Society and Book Club.  She especially enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading and other needlecrafts.  Times with family and grandchildren were her favorite activities.

Joyce married James O'Neill in 1948.  To this union, 4 children were born; Tom, Patti, Ann, & Bonnie.  Her second marriage was to Bruno Schlueter in 1974.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Ed & Hattie, and son, Tom.

She is survived by her husband, Bruno, 3 daughters; Pat Gibson (Joe), Ann Haynes (Dean) and Bonnie Mehrens (Mike) and her brother, Ron Scranton (Alice).

Her love will live on in the lives of her 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, as well as, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Her family pays this tribute to her:  " Joyce was one of the kindest people you could ever meet.  She opened her heart and extended her love to everyone.  She was a special lady and will be sorely missed by all."

Funeral service for Joyce Schlueter age 90 of Valentine will be held on Saturday, May 11 ^th at 1:30 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine.  Visitation will be on Friday, May 10 ^th at 6:00PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines.
