Obituary

Funeral service for Kathleen "Kate" Drinkwalter age 90 of Valentine will be held on Friday, Sept. 25 at 2:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. A private family burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Wood Lake. Visitation will be on Thursday at 2:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine. Mrs. Drinkwa

Kathleen June Hanna was born July 23, 1925 to George P. and Myrtle (Mickelsen) Hanna in Omaha, NE. She died September 22, 2015 at Pine View Good Samaritan Home in Valentine, NE.

Kate was a lifelong resident of Cherry County. She attended rural schools and then attended Nebraska School of Agriculture at Curtis, graduating in 1942. She attended Wayne State College and Kearney State Teacher's College, graduating in 1946. She taught school in Valentine, Merriman, and Thedford.

She married James M. Drinkwalter May 22, 1948. They were partners in the ranching business in the Goose Creek area. Three children were born; Sheila and twins, Jim and Jan. Kate was in Eastern Star, a 4-H leader, a Job's Daughter's council member, and involved in Valentine Presbyterian Church after retirement and moving to town.

A teacher at heart, Kate was always willing to share a story, give advice, and teach people how to cook. She enjoyed challenging her mind with reading, Bible studies, crossword puzzles, cards, and games of any kind. Her house was always open to anyone and she always made sure you didn't leave hungry. She loved singing and dancing, as well as telling jokes.

Preceded in death by husband Jim; parents; sisters Alyce Ann Hanna and Dorothy Parnell; brother George P. Hanna, Jr. Survived by children Sheila (Art) Nelson, Jim Drinkwalter, and Jan Drinkwalter; grandchildren Jana (Grant) Bitner, Katie Nelson, Maggie (Sid) Hackwith, Joe Drinkwalter, and Nicole Drinkwalter; great-grandchildren Kayla, Hanna, Kaliyah, Katelyn, and Mason; sister Marylouise Giles; sisters-in-law Dorothy Sharp, Mary Lou Thornton, Delma (Dave) Fisher, Alma Lea (Phil) Keller, Betty (Mike) Boykin, Charlotte Edwards, and Isla Drinkwalter; brothers-in-law Bill (Gail) Drinkwalter and Bob Keim and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in Kate's name to Mount Hope Cemetery in Wood Lake or the Methodist Youth Group.
