Kathleen Belle Kerr Brown was born March 25, 1950, to William and Mary Kerr at the Sandhills General Hospital in Valentine, Nebraska. She was later joined by one sibling, Peggy. She grew up in the country and attended Valentine High School. After graduating, she worked at the Cherry County Clerk’s Office until she joined the Bank of Valentine as a proof entry operator. 

Kathy lived on the family farm where she helped milk cows and raise cattle. She enjoyed haying every summer doing the mowing and raking. Kathy raised chickens, ducks and guineas, and cared for many other animals. She loved the outdoor country life. 

While Kathy did not have children of her own, she was very much involved with the raising of her 2 nieces, April and Abby Snell. They have so many special memories of Kathy from shopping trips, pranks, and farm adventures. 

Later in life, Kathy met the love of her life, Ronnie Brown. They were married on May 6th, 2000. With that marriage, she welcomed even more love and family into her life, including three stepsons: Bert, Anthony, and Troy. Despite her health challenges, Kathy kept a wonderful sense of humor and deeply enjoyed her family. She especially cherished traveling with loved ones and attending family events, including a trip to Washington State for Madi Brown’s graduation and a memorable visit to Nashville with Peggy, April, and Abby Snell to see the Grand Ole Opry — a trip that still inspires stories today. 

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Mary and William Kerr. She is survived by Husband Ron, Sister Peggy Snell (Lonie), Stepsons Bert (Lynn) Brown, Anthony (Paula) Brown, Troy (Angie) Brown, Aunt JoAnn Kerr and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Throughout her life Kathy made wonderful friends and enjoyed family. Kathy passed away at Bryan Memorial Hospital on August 19th, 2026, surrounded by family. She will be greatly missed and always remembered for her love and laughter.

Graveside service for Kathy Brown, age 76 of Valentine, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Sparks Cemetery. There will be a meal service after the graveside service for attendees and anyone not able to attend, following the graveside service at the Senior Center in Valentine. Memorials may be made to the Sandhills Cancer Fund in her name. Kathy passed away on Aug. 19, 2026, in Lincoln.
