IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth Buzz
Kime
September 4, 2020
Kenneth Carl "Buzz" Kime was born to Jake and Edith (Mitchell) Kime on April 18, 1935 at his Aunt Lizzy Ladley's home in Mullen, Nebraska. His early years were spent on the Kime ranch north of Whitman in the Nebraska Sandhills. The youngest of four siblings, Buzz acquired his lifetime nickname as a toddler when a hired hand's observance of his "buzzing around" prompted him to call Kenneth, Buzzy. Buzz, at one time taught by his older sister, Beth, attended elementary school in one-room country schools. In 1943, when he was eight, the Kimes relocated to a larger ranch south of Nenzel, then known as the HL Bar where he ranched until he was no longer able.
Buzz attended high school at the Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, Nebraska. Buzz proudly served our country in Korea from March 11, 1958 to December 10, 1959. An early honorable discharge from Fort Sill, Oklahoma was granted so he could return home to help on the ranch.
On June 10, 1962 Buzz married Shirley Mogle in Valentine, Nebraska. Two sons completed their family, Dallas born in 1963 and Shane in 1969.
Buzz, a lifetime rancher, worked for many years with his older brother, Lenard. The Kime brothers continued the family legacy working with their sons and their families, successfully raising Hereford cattle and expanding their cattle business. At one time they leased the neighboring McMurtrey Ranch for several years working it along with the home place. Buzz's work ethic, intelligence, mechanical skills, meticulousness with fencing and haying, his willingness to get along with anyone and his allowance of an Angus bull to cover those Hereford cows were large factors in their success.
Buzz served on the local country school board and Valentine Rural High School Board for many years. He was an avid Husker fan and trips to their games and the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas with the Churchills was a great joy in his life. This tough cattleman's soft heart was shown in how he loved his family. His stories of his days in Curtis, Korea and the history and happenings of ranch life were enjoyed by all who crossed his path, young and old alike.
Perhaps his trademark nip of Old Crow and the lighting of an ever present cigarette with a branding iron, along with numerous horse wrecks hastened the betrayal of his physical body leading Buzz to live out the last four years of his life under the loving care of Pioneer Memorial Rest Home in Mullen and Pineview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Valentine. No matter the cause, he met that challenge through the love of his family and with the same acceptance and courage that carried him through any earthly trial that came his way. He departed this life and stepped whole again into the arms of Jesus on September 4, 2020 at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, Nebraska at the age of 85.
Preceding him in death were his, parents, three siblings, Leonard Kime, Barbara Gale, and Beth Yeager, and their spouses, Joan, Edson and Bob.
Those remaining who will miss him dearly, are his wife Shirley, sons, Dallas and wife, Carmen, and Shane and wife, Heather, his grandchildren, Drew (Macaib) Hoefer, McKenna (Josh) Beckman, Shaye and Jake Kime, great-grandchildren, Rhyan and Blair Hoefer and Grayson Beckman, nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors.
