LeRoy Delbert Lurz was born October 8 th 1937 in Valentine, Nebraska to Inez (Brown) and Eustach Lurz. LeRoy was the fourth of eleven children in the family. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Lloyd, Lawrence and Don Lurz) and one sister Ann Powell, and niece Tracy and nephew John. LeRoy is survived by brothers (Leonard, Ray and Dave Lurz), and three sisters (Deloris Hamling, Louise McLean, and Dorothy Gallino) and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
LeRoy, worked for many years with several brothers, in their Lurz Construction Company, before the brothers branched off into various other pursuits. LeRoy farmed on the family farm/ranch for over 70 plus years, and raised/trained Border Collies until he retired from working and moved to North Platte, Nebraska.
LeRoy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working his Border collies, Bones and Molly. After moving to North Platte he enjoyed cooking/BBQing for friends in his apartment building. LeRoy looked forward to trips to Washington State to visit his sister Deloris of Federal Way and her family, his brother Ray of DesMoines and wife Judy and nephew James of Enumclaw and his family. On these vacations, his brother Ray made sure LeRoy experienced several salmon fishing excursions with various family members.
In October 2019, after a fall in his apartment in North Platte, LeRoy sustained injuries from which he was unable to recover and passed away in Sutherland, Nebraska on July 16, 2020 at the age of 82. He will be greatly missed by loved ones and friends, but alas is now free from pain as he rejoins departed friends and family. The family would like to give many thanks to his niece Susan for her wonderful help and care for her Uncle LeRoy in his time of need.
Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in charge of arrangements: Viewing of LeRoy, Tuesday July 21 st at 1 p.m. and Wednesday previous to 10 a.m. services at Sandoz Chapel. Songs played at the service, "Old Rugged Cross" and "When I Get Where I Am Going". LeRoy's final resting place will be at Mt. Hope cemetery in Valentine.
