Lloyd B. Weis, 88 years of age, of Valentine, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine.
Lloyd was born December 16, 1922 in Brookville, Kansas to Burton and Verda Weis, the second born of 6 children. He graduated from Brookville High School.
After graduation, Lloyd was inducted into the army on January 13 1943. He served in the United States, the Philippines, and Japan in World War II. He was honorably discharged on February 15, 1946.
On January 13, 1945, he was united in Marriage to Marcella Nelson in Hugo, Oklahoma.
After the war they moved to Axtell, Nebraska where Lloyd worked as a mechanic for Glen Witte. Later he was employed as a salesman for Sidles Company, an automotive parts store in Holdrege, Nebraska. Lloyd transferred to Sidles in Valentine, NE to become the store Manager. In 1970 he transferred to Sidles in Chadron, NE. In 1974, Lloyd and Marcella bought the Valentine Sidles parts business and the new franchise which became Mr. Automotive. Lloyd retired in 1989.
Lloyd was active in the Valentine Presbyterian church and also was a Freemason, and a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Lloyd enjoyed working with his hands and after retirement he stayed busy re-building bicycles to give away, and doing many chores for the church, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Raymond, two sisters Lucille Dearing, and Viola Miller, two granddaughters, Ashley Cahill and Lisa Weis.
He leaves to mourn his wife Marcella of Valentine, one son, Darrel Weis and his wife Kathy of Kearney, NE and one daughter Vickie Cahill and her husband Jim of San Antonio, TX. Grandchildren Brett Weis and his wife Kristy of Kearney, Michael (Shane) Cahill and his wife Jamie of San Antonio, TX, and Kylie Cahill of San Antonio. Also surviving are Great grandchildren Emma, Ellie, Zachery and Daniel Weis of Kearney, Caleb, Chelsea, Cameron and Chance Cahill, of San Antonio, TX. and many cousins' nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service for Lloyd Weis was held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 3rd at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine, NE. Graveside service was held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 4th, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell, NE. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
