Lorain Elva Haas (89) of Valentine, NE went to be with the Lord on June 6 ^th , 2018 in North Platte, NE. She was born on May 4 ^th , 1929 in Crookston, NE to Rudolph and Alma Porath (Ohlmann). She graduated from Valentine High School in 1947. She was married to Gail Haas on December 15 ^th , 1957 in Valentine, NE, where they spent the entirety of their marriage.

Lorain is preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Alma Porath, siblings Marvin, Hugo, Rueben, Wayne, Edger, Harlin Porath and Loretta Brott. She is survived by her husband, Gail Haas and many who loved her.

Lorain worked as a nurse at the Cherry County Clinic where she retired after a career spanning 50 years. She also helped Gail with the rental business throughout her life. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and served in Ladies Aid for many years.  Lorain accompanied Gail on many vacations, sometimes traveling out of the country. She loved going to Merritt Dam, and if the pontoon left the dock, she was sure to be on it. She enjoyed bowling with her friends on league night and even set some records. Children were one of Lorain's greatest treasures, and she spoiled them every chance she got. Her passion for family and friends is proudly displayed on her coffee table. Admiring these photos of her loved ones brought her so much joy and happiness.

Anyone who came to visit Lorain's home was always welcomed with a warm smile, a table full of snacks and perhaps, some freshly baked cookies. She had many sacred recipes, such as her caramel puffcorn and peanut brittle, and was always sure to make extra for coworkers, family and friends. Lorain was always so kind and generous to all. Even a few stray cats in the alley were offered meals left outside the back door. She had the extraordinary ability to make everyone around her feel taken care of, always going above and beyond, whether at work or in her home.

Memorials honoring Lorain may be directed to Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid or to the family.

Funeral service for Lorain Hass age 89 of Valentine will be held on Monday, June 11 at 10:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Valentine.  Burial will follow at Mt Hope Cemetery in Valentine.  Visitation will be on Sunday, June 10th from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines.  Mrs. Haas passed away on June 6 in North Platte.
