Obituary
Margaret Fox of Kilgore passed away March 2nd, 2013 at the Cherry County Hospital after a brief illness.
Margaret was born January 8th, 1917 in Colome, SD to William & Myrtle (George) Manifold. The family also lived in Springview and Valentine before settling in Kilgore.Margaret graduated from Kilgore in 1934 and married Wesley Fox (a few weeks after graduation) on June 6th,1934 at the Methodist Church in Kilgore. They were married for over 70 years. To this union three children were born - Ann, Robert and Ronald.
They ranched in Kilgore and then moved to Plainview for three years before returning to Kilgore to the family homestead. Margaret worked with Wesley on the ranch milking cows twice a day, helping in the hayfield, raising a large garden and anything else that needed to be done. They remained on the ranch until 1989 when they moved to Kilgore. Margaret lived at home at the time of her death.
Margaret was the Kilgore postmaster for 24 years. She was initiated in Eastern Star, Minnehaha Chapter #246 in 1941, making her a 71 year member. She was also a past Matron. In 1981 she was the first women inducted into the Nebraska Horseshoe Pitchers Association's Hall of Fame. Margaret was instrumental in getting the Methodist Church reopened in Kilgore after being closed for several years.
Her hobbies were pitching horseshoes, cross country skiing, knitting, gardening, reading and bowling. She bowled every week since 1960. She was 93 when she decided it was time to put her bowling ball away for good.
Her survivors include daughter Ann Nielsen of Greeley, NE
Grandsons Dale (Cindi) Nielsen Kilgore, NE and Alan (Linda) Nielsen Greeley, NE Granddaughter's Lea Ann Dugan (Gerald) Greeley, NE, Tami (Larry) Welch Greeley, NE
and Beth (Mark) Ashe Spalding, NE. 18 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley, her parents, sons Ronald and infant Robert Wesley, son-in-law Lee Nielsen, sisters Ida, Kathleen, Byrle, Mary and Alice, brothers Bob, Henry "Hank" and Don, Great Granddaughters Amber M. and Amber E. Dugan and Vanda Welch-Lopez, brother-in-law Henry (Mary) Fox,
sister-in-law Frances (Courtney) Miller and nephew Eldon Fox.
