Marie Evelyn (Gillaspie) Wendt was born in Rosebud, SD to Robert "Bob" & Viola (Carroll) Gillaspie on May 8th, 1933. She attended grade school at Littleburg by Mission, SD & graduated from High School at St. Francis Mission School. After graduating from Chadron State College in Nebraska, she taught country school at North Ward School in NE. She then moved to Norfolk, NE. in 1952 & there she met Glenn "Dale" Wendt. They were married on May 25th, 1953 & to this union 4 children were born: Bonnie, Arjean, Chuck, & Janet. They moved with Dale's work to-Norfolk, McCook, Broken Bow, Fremont, York, & Valentine. Her special interests were bowling, dancing, & reading. She also was very faithful about visiting Dale & other residents at the Pine View Nursing Home until her illness forced her to move to North Platte, closer to her cancer doctors. After a short illness, she passed away at her son's home in North Platte.

Survivors include her husband Dale of Valentine; Children- Bonnie (Bill) Gardner of Winner, SD, Chuck (Angie Jenson) of North Platte, & Janet (TJ) Vincent of North Port, FL. Grandchildren-Shane, Blake (Kati), & Brett Gardner, Chad (Brandi) Bennett, Michelle (Brian) Magarin, Nicole Kelly, Dylan Lieberth, & Shannon Joseph Perrett, & of course her great grandkids & nieces & nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother- Bobby Gillaspie, sister- Florence Allen & daughter- Arjean Mae Wendt.


Memorial services will be held on Good Friday, April 18th, 2014 at 11:00 AM
At Sandoz Funeral Chapel in Valentine. Visitation will be Thursday, April 17th from 5:00 to 7:00. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
