Obituary

Nellie Dora Breuklander Rhoades was born June 26, 1923 to Henry and Mary Breuklander in a house that still stands at 223 West 2nd Street in Valentine, NE. Nellie passed away February 25, 2017 at Pineview Good Samaritan Center.

When she was three years old the family moved into a log house south of Sparks, NE. Nellie attended the Rocky Ford School on the Niobrara River from 1930 - 1936. Her family moved 1 ½ miles south of Sparks and Nellie went to the Sparks School from 8th to 10th grade.

Nellie married George Hudson Rhoades June 13, 1946. To this union four children were born, Georgia Marlene, Sandra Kay, Elaine Marie and Jerry George.

She worked at the Raine Motel, the Jordan Hotel and the Buttercup Cafe. Nellie loved her family and babysitting for her grandkids and her "adopted" grandkids. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and picnics. She was a member of the VFW Auxillary.

Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents, daughters Marlene Paxton and Elaine Richardson. Also preceding her were her sisters Gladys (Ervy) Osburn, Hazel (Rex) Peterson and brothers Bill (Alberta) Breuklander and Roy Breuklander.

She is survived by daughter Sandra Aeschilman, son Jerry and wife Connie, and son-in-law Lloyd Paxton, all of Valentine. Also surviving is one sister-in-law Florence Breuklander, grandchildren Johnny Ray Jones, Tonya (Samuel)Mfinanga, Brian Paxton, Jason (Sandy) Aeschilman, Richie Aeschilman, Jodi Hanshew and Jill (Joel) Anderson. Great grandchildren are Serena and Ethan Aeschilman, Samantha, Chloe and Sophie Jones, Elijah, Joshua, Caleb,
Mikali and Amani Mfinanga, Mikaya Aeschilman, Jacob and Jiles Hanshew, Isaac and Ashlyn Anderson. "Adopted" grandchildren, Katie Rhodes, Sarah Allard, Christy Wantz and Jeff Ward.

Her quiet, accepting ways (and quick wit) will be missed by her family and her many friends.

Funeral service for Nellie Rhoades age 93 of Valentine will be held on Wednesday, March 1 at 11:00 AM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Visitation will be on Tuesday, at 2:00 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines.
