Obituary

Patricia Ann (Anderson) Hoefs was born September 19, 1929 in Burwell, NE to Guy R. and Mable C. (Johnson) Anderson. She attended Burwell Elementary School and graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1947. Her first career after graduating was as a rural school teacher south of Wood Lake.  Paul would buzz the school in his plane to get her attention.  He soon won her favor!  They were married on June 26, 1948.  This union was blessed with 9 children.  Paul and Pat ranched in the Wood Lake area where they raised their family.

Pat was always busy as a ranch wife, mother of 9 and helping in her community. She served on the Wood Lake school board, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the altar society.  In addition, she worked for many years at the Cherry County Hospital in a variety of technical roles and was an EMT with the ambulance. Pat enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, camping, swimming, bowling, decorating and taking care of her cats.  Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family.  She was a woman of strong faith and was very devoted to her family. She helped us all learn how to be hard workers and reminded us of the importance of family and forgiveness.

Pat passed away July 26, 2019 at O'Neill Care Center in O'Neill, NE at age 89.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim Anderson and sister Dorothy Murphy.  She is survived by her husband Paul; children, Paul (Kayde) Hoefs Jr., Sherry (Ken) Cameron, Mary Kay Mooney and Jan (David) Upchurch all of Arizona, Bonnie (Randy) Rought of Colorado, John (Dee) Hoefs of Wood Lake, Patrice Hoefs of Missouri, Jim (Jane) Hoefs of Colorado and Mark (Julie) Hoefs of Valentine.  Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held August 1, 2019 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine.  Burial followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Wood Lake.  Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with funeral arrangements.
