Obituary

Phyllis H. (Carnes) Rothleutner, 83, rancher and long-time resident of Kilgore, Nebraska, passed away on March 15, 2012, in Valentine, Nebraska. Phyllis was born on April 24, 1928, in Neligh, Nebraska, to Marguerite (Lamson) and Ralph Carnes. She was an only child, but was nurtured by a loving extended family. Phyllis graduated from Neligh High School in 1945 and from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1950. She married Wesley M. Rothleutner of Kilgore on June 14, 1948, and the couple returned to Kilgore following their graduations from Nebraska Wesleyan. Phyllis was a long-time member of many organizations in Cherry County, including the Kilgore Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Nebraska Cattlewomen, was Past President of the Nebraska Cow-belles, and served as President of the American National Cattlewomen in 1991. Phyllis was instrumental in the founding of the ANCW Foundation. Phyllis was a Past President of the AG Women's Leadership Network and also served on the Cattlemen's Beef Board for eight years. Phyllis was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Valentine for nearly 50 years where she served as Worthy Matron three times and was a Past Grand Representative. She was a founding member of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Cozy Fireside Club and belonged to the American Association of University Women, Cherry County Branch. Phyllis was a member of the Cody American Legion Auxiliary and was on the Board of Directors for the Sandhills Area Foundation for ten years. She was a member of the Cherry County Hospital Board for 22 years. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wesley, and both of her parents. She had lived at Cherry Hills Estates in Valentine for the past four years. Phyllis is survived by children Todd and Bonnie Rothleutner of Kilgore, Elise and Steve Douglas of Cooper, Texas, and Ralph and Rachel Rothleutner of Titusville, Florida. Grandchildren include April Rothleutner, Lee Rothleutner , Chris Douglas, Greg and Jenae Douglas, Tim Douglas, Thomasin Rothleutner, Jessie and Dion Booker, Justin and Anne Metcalf, and Josh and Alexa Metcalf. Great-grandchildren are Gavyn Douglas, Kaia and Myri Booker, and Alex and Austin Metcalf. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. CDT at the Valentine United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Kilgore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sandhills Area Foundation or the Kilgore Community Building.
