Obituary

Roderick Louis Jackson Bordeaux was born to Bo and Rose Bordeaux November 13th, 1943 in Chadron, NE. He grew up with three sisters and six brothers. Growing up in a large close-knit family helped set the foundation for the loving father Rick became. He attended school at St. Francis and graduated from Valentine High School. He then joined the Air Force and went to Vietnam. Upon his return Rick married Shirley Menard November 27th, 1968 in St. Francis. He worked as a carpenter and various other jobs before starting at the Post Office in Valentine in 1979. He worked his way up to Postmaster and held that position until his retirement in 2001. He loved being a part of the community and really enjoyed his work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Auxiliary. He loved playing poker, playing softball, camping, fishing, the Huskers, and sports. He enjoyed getting his kids and grandkids together for barbeques and holiday events. He really loved putting together scavenger hunts, pumpkin carving competitions, and poker tournaments for his family. Rick passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on the evening of January 18th 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents: Robert Bordeaux Sr. and Rose Bordeaux; His son-in-law: James Gentry and his brother Robert Bordeaux Jr and brother-in-law, Robert Kellar Sr. Rick is survived by his wife: Shirley Bordeaux; His children: Sandy Bordeaux-Gentry, Lisa Homan(Husband Danny Homan), Jackie Bordeaux-Nicholson(Husband Eddie Nicholson), Robin Bordeaux, and Jamie Bordeaux; His grandchildren: Kyle Homan, Joseph Lance, Alyssa Homan, Steven Shields, Macy Homan, and LJ Nicholson; His great-granddaughter: Emma Homan; His Brothers and sisters: Roberta Kellar, Ronald Bordeaux, Gilbert Bordeaux, Ruth Kornely, Richard Bordeaux, Randy Bordeaux, Roger Bordeaux, and Rhonda Haukaas; and his many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Rick Bordeaux, age 71 of Valentine will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 11:00 AM at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 20 at 6:00 PM at St. Nicholas Church Parish Hall with rosary at 7:00 PM with Veterans Roll Call to follow. Mr. Bordeaux passed away on Sunday at his home in Valentine.
