Funeral service for Roy breuklander age 88 of Valentine will be held on Monday, July 28 at 2:00 PM at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 27 at 10:00 AM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines.
Roy Elbert Breuklander was born May 9, 1926 in Valentine, Nebraska. He was one of five children born to Henry Albert and Mary Ellen (Simonson) Breuklander. Roy began his formal education at Rock Ford School and then attended school in Sparks, where he graduated the eighth grade.
Roy served his country in the United States Army being inducted on March 4, 1953. He was honorable discharged February 4, 1955. Roy then returned home and married Florence Grace Spear on June 28, 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine. This union was blessed with four children. Roy and Florence ranched and operated Sunny Brook Camp and Canoe Rentals near Sparks, NE.
He was a member of Presbyterian Church USA and attended Second Wind Church. Also a member of the American legion, lifetime member North American Hunting Club, NE Outlaw Trail Scenic Byway 12, Highway 20 Assoc., Save the Niobrara Assoc., and Niobrara River Outfitters Assoc.
Roy prided his time training and working with horses, welding, wood working, taking photo's hunting, and trapping. He enjoyed camping & floating the Niobrara River, collecting coins, fossils, petrified wood, & rocks. His favorite pastime was dancing, spending time with others sharing jokes and telling stories.
Roy passed away July 24, 2014 at the Ainsworth Care Center at age 88. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Justin Kneifl, Sisters Gladys Osburn and Hazel Peterson and Brother William Breuklander. He is survived by his wife Florence, daughters Shirley (Ron) Winter of Hastings, NE, Twyla (Doug) Graham of Valentine, NE, Rhonda (Bruce) Kneifl of Newcastle, NE and son Steve (Gina) Breuklander of Sparks, NE. grandchildren Jessie (Derek) Wietjes, Jeni (Jon) Cox, Zeb (Lanell) Graham, Angelina (Greg) Wright, Mandy (Greg) Gear, Tana Breuklander and Dani Breuklander, and great grandchildren Everett Wietjes, Dalton Graham, Trinn Kneifl, Lennon Gear. Also surviving is sister Nellie Rhoades and many nieces & nephews.
