Obituary

Shirley Joy Bordeaux was born to Harding and Gladys Menard on February 18th, 1944 in Rosebud, SD. She grew up in St. Francis, SD. and Valentine, NE with her parents, 3 sisters, and a brother. She graduated from St. Francis. There she met the love of her life, Rick Bordeaux. She then attended Beauty School in San Jose, CA. While Rick was in Vietnam, she would exchange love letters with him. When he returned, they continued their love and got married on November 27th, 1968 in St. Francis, SD. They started a loving family and raised five girls. She was a beautician and ran her own beauty shop in several locations in Valentine, NE. She retired her shop in 2012, but still loved to visit her ladies (as she liked to call them) and do their hair at their homes. She loved to sew, quilt, play cards, play Yahtzee, shopping and going to garage sales. She also enjoyed visiting casinos. She shared a love for football with her husband and many family members. The Huskers and the Broncos were her favorite teams. But most of all she loved her family and she will be deeply missed. She passed away at her home surrounded by her daughters on February 19th, 2015.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rick Bordeaux; Her parents: Harding and Gladys Menard; Her son-in-law, James Gentry; Her sister, Norma (Delo) Nagel; Her brother, Harding (Butch) Menard Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandy Bordeaux-Gentry, Lisa Homan (husband Danny Homan), Jackie Bordeaux-Nicholson (husband Eddie Nicholson), Robin Bordeaux and Jamie Bordeaux; Her grandchildren: Kyle Homan, Joseph Lance, Alyssa Homan, Steven Shields, Macy Homan, and LJ Nicholson; Her grand-daughter, Emma Homan; Her sisters: Karen (Punkin) Black Lance (husband Nilus Black Lance), Janice (Babe) Menard; and her many nieces and nephews.

Mass a Christian Burial for Shirley Bordeaux age 71 of Valentine will be held on Monday, Feb. 23 at 10:00 AM at St. Nickolas Catholic Church in Valentine. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Rosary will be recited on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM at St. Nickolas Parish Hall in Valentine. Mrs. Bordeaux passed away on Feb. 19 at her home in Valentine.
