Obituary

Stanley Sterling (Fritz) Osterman, 90, died of cancer on March 16, 2015, in San Diego, CA, at the home of his daughter, Rita. Born June 8, 1924, to Ferdinand and Grace
(Hoffman) Osterman in Kilgore, NE. Graduated high school, Kilgore Public School, 1942. Married Catherine N. Brennan, Omaha, NE, who had moved to Kilgore to teach in the high school, in Kearney, NE, on October 31, 1942. Inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps, Mare Island, CA, in October 1943. Basic Training, Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA, & Tank Training, Camp Elliott, CA. Overseas service with Company B, 5th Tank Battalion, 5th Marine Division, in the Hawaiian Islands, Iwo Jima, V.I., Saipan, M.I., & Sasebo, Kyushu, Japan. Honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in December, 1945. Memorial plaque commemorating his service is located at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial, San Diego, CA. After returning from the Pacific, lived in Omaha, NE, working at the stockyards before moving his family back to Kilgore in 1947, where, over the years, he worked as a truck driver, carpenter, & ranch hand. In later years, he worked for the village of Kilgore, served on the Village Board, & also served on the St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Council in Nenzel, NE. Following the death of his wife, Catherine, in 2003, spent part of his remaining years in San Diego, CA, living with his daughter, Rita. His time there involved his favorite pastime of frequent trips to the Fremont Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV, most recently at the end of February, where he is now remembered with a Sharpshooter plaque on the wall of the Casino having held the dice at the crap table for 62 rolls on October 16, 2012. Fritz is survived by daughters, Rita, San Diego, CA, Joan (Podsednik) & husband, A. J. (Fred), Spring Hill, KS, sons John (Jack) & wife Ann, Lincoln, NE, Robert (Bob) & wife, Marvel, Hyannis, NE, Blane & wife, Kathie, Lincoln, NE, Bruce & wife, Kathleen, Sibley, IA, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, & nephew, Waldo Osterman, Wood Lake, NE, who, just six year his younger, grew up with him at the Osterman home in Kilgore, & numerous other nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Catherine, his parents, sister, Mae, brothers Ernest, Lee, Leonard, Wesley & their wives.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, March 25 at 10:00 AM MT at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nenzel. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:00 PM MT on Tuesday at the church.
