Sue Peters 1943 - 2018
Sue (Mary Lou) Peters was born in Wahoo, NE, on November, 18, 1943. She passed away on July 7, 2018 at the Cherry County Hospital in Valentine, NE surrounded by family at the age of seventy-five.
Sue was the daughter of Adelbert (Deb) and Florence Coble of Valentine, NE and Eugene Holderness of Omaha, NE. She spent her childhood growing up in Woodlake, NE where her parents owned and operated Stockman's Restaurant and Bar and later the Jewel Theater and Sandhills Drive-in Theater in Valentine. Sue attended high school in Kilgore and Kearney, NE and completed several years of college studying Nursing and Social Work. She married Glenn Clasen of Kilgore, NE in 1963 at St. Nicholas Church in Valentine, NE. Sue and Glenn had three daughters, Debbie, Pam and Kim and lived in Laramie, WY, Alliance, NE and in Kilgore, NE. In 1979 Sue was re-married to Jim Peters and they lived in Valentine, NE and later in Ogallala, NE. She gained a step-daughter, Jill and step-sons, Jesse and Scott through her marriage to Jim.
Following Jim's death, Sue moved to Lincoln, NE where she lived in an apartment overlooking her beloved NE Cornhuskers stadium and was a season ticket holder for both football and volleyball. In Lincoln she continued her career in Child Advocacy and Child Protective Services. She had a lifelong passion and empathy for helping those in need especially children who had been mentally, physically and sexually abused. Sue's home was often filled with kids in need of love, family and guidance.
When she began her brave battle with Parkinson's disease at approximately the age of 63, she moved back to Valentine, NE to be near family and friends. Sue was active at St. Nicholas Catholic Church where she taught CCD classes and was a member of the Christian Mothers. As the disease progressed she moved into Cherry Hills Estates and most recently Pine View Good Samaritan Center. Even when she could no longer move any part of her body and barely speak, her grace, dignity and concern for other always shined through.
Sue is now re-united in passing with her husband Jim Peters and her parents Adelbert and Florence Coble and Eugene Holderness. She is survived in love and memory by her daughters, Debbie Clasen of Cody, NE, Pam (Tom) Johnson, San Diego, CA, Jill (John) Elliott, Kearney, NE, and Kim (Andre) Mungin, Omaha, NE; stepsons, Scott (Ginny) Peters, Chadron, NE and Jesse (Marlena) Peters, Cody, Wyoming; grandchildren, Isaac, Dani, and Jordy Bachmann, Max, Ty and Dane Johnson, Joslyn, Jacob and Jackson Elliott, Justin and James Peters and Macie Mungin; great grandchildren, Evelyn and Huxley Bachmann; and siblings, Jan and Joe Coble of Omaha, NE and many more nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The funeral is to be held on July 12 th at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine, NE followed by a burial at Mount Hope Cemetary in Wood Lake, NE. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines is in charge of the arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Cherry Hills Estates and Pine View Good Samaritan Center for their loving care and support provided.
