Tressa Merle Henderson Peters was born to Raymond and Alta Sisson Henderson on September 16, 1917 near Ainsworth, NE. Tressa passed away on Tuesday, September 12 at the Emanuel Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 95.
Tressa attended rural school and graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1935. She married William A. Peters on February 28, 1942. Three children blessed this union. Tressa taught school while Bill was in the Army and she was the first president of the Rural Teachers Association in Cherry County. While the children were growing up she was active in both the Girls and Boy Scouts and taught Sunday school.
When the children were ready to go to college, Tressa started working at the City Library and continued to work there for 17 ½ years. After the library she went to work at the hardware store to help Bill.
Tressa was very involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, holding office not only in the local but the district and state levels. She also held office in the Sandhills Solon 602 of8 and 40. She was member of the Happy Homemakers Extension Club since 1960. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church and the Church Circle.
Tressa traveled extensively. She traveled the world and visited all 50 states in the U.S.A.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her children, David of Omaha, NE, DeLuris Barclay of Valentine and Duane of Alliance, NE. Also surviving are grand and great grandchildren and one brother.
Graveside service for Tressa Peters was held on Thursday, September 19 at 10:30 AM at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine. Memorials may be made to the Valentine Memorial Library Foundation. Sandoz Chapel of the Pines was entrusted with service arrangements.
