Vander Ewart was born September 11, 1920 in Iowa to Charles M. (John) and Esther Ewart. He died April 17, 2013 at Pineview Good Samaritan Center in Valentine, Nebraska at the age of 92.
In 1921, the Ewart family moved to a home south of Cody, Nebraska. Vander was one of 5 children, having 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Vander attended country school near Cody. Vander lived through the depression, and entered the Army in 1942. He survived WWII and was honorably discharged in 1947. He lived and worked in the oil fields in Kansas until he returned to help his brother with the ranch in Cody until it sold in April of 2004.
After the sale of the ranch both he and Paul moved to an apartment in Valentine. Vander was very independent and very frugal after living through the depression. He missed the Cody community and always looked forward to Circle C Days and the meal at the White Elephant put on by the Cody Community. He did enjoy McDonald's hamburgers and soft serve ice cream. A trip to the gas station for popcorn was a regular treat. But his favorite meal was a big juicy steak from the Bunk House.
Vander and Paul, due to health reasons eventually had to move to Oakwood, an assisted living facility. There they enjoyed the various activities and regular cooked meals. Vander still missed the Ranch and the beauty of the Sandhills. He missed the cattle, horses and most of all his own schedule of getting up late in the mornings. Eventually both Vander and Paul moved to the rest home. Vander is survived by his brother Paul, two nephews Max and Bob. He will be missed by friends and family. Good Bye our friend and loved one, Vander (Bill) Ewart.
