Violet Mae Phillips Bliss was born to Herbert and Nettie (Hensler) Phillips on July 25, 1923 near Nenzel, Nebraska. After graduating from high school, Violet attended Wayne State Teachers College and received her teaching certificate.
She married Jennings W. Bliss on May 22, 1946. They were married for 61 years before Jennings passed away on April 10, 2007. Violet enjoyed being a homemaker and a gardener. She attended the First Baptist Church in Kilgore and later the Berean Church in Valentine.
Violet passed away April 8, 2013 at Pine View Good Samaritan Home in Valentine, NE. Violet is survived by two sons, Jim of Tucson, AZ. and Gary and wife Barbara of Grand Rapids, Michigan, two grandchildren Anne (Derek) Pate of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jeffrey D. Bliss (Rachel) of Little Rock, Arkansas and two great grandchildren, Brody S. Bliss and Ariya H. Bliss
Funeral service for Violet Bliss will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine. Pastor Don Letellier will officiate at the 2:00 p.m. service. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Pine View Good Samaritan Society, Valentine, NE.
