Life Changes ------but it never ends.
William (Bill) H. Luther, of Kilgore, Nebraska died peacefully Easter morning about 9:30, March 27th at the age of 83 at his home in North Platte, Ne.
He was born to Howard and May (Rodgers) Luther on December 22, 1932 at Nickerson, Nebraska, the third of a family of four. Bill attended country school and graduated from Hooper High School in 1950. After graduation he attended the University of Nebraska and in 1953 entered the Army as a member of the 506th & 4th Helicopter Company. He attended the Trade School in Milford after being discharged from the Army where he took up welding and enjoyed playing basketball with the team. He met his wife Carol during his time in Milford and they were married on Sept. 14th, 1958. They lived on the Howard J. Luther Ranch all of their married life with their children Kay, Gregg, and Mark.
Bill served on the Cody-Kilgore School Board for 25 years. He became a 60 year member of the Legion in 2016. He was a member of Minnechadusa Lodge #192 of Valentine where he served as Master. He received his 50 year pin in 2014. Bill was also a member of Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Grand Council Cryptic Masons, Commandery No. 100 Knights Templar and Tangier Shriners of Omaha, NE. He also is a member of Minnehaha Chapter #246 Order of the Eastern Star of Valentine serving as Worthy Patron many times. Bill was a member of the Kilgore United Methodist Church in Kilgore.
Bill had many health problems that in later years kept him at home most of the time. Yet he enjoyed Nebraska football, basketball and volleyball. Bill was a quiet, sensitive and caring man and a loyal friend who loved his family and one of his greatest "JOYS" was when he became "GRANDPA." He encouraged his children and his 8 grandchildren. Bill spent his life working on the ranch and enjoying the life raising cattle and putting up hay. He enjoyed getting to know the young men who worked for the ranch through the years.
Bill is survived by Wife Carol, Kilgore, daughter Kay Urbigkit, granddaughters, Autumn, Abby and Ally of Mitchell, S.D. Son Gregg and daughter-in-law Diane and son Tanner of Oklahoma City, Ok. Son Mark and daughter-in-law Amy and sons Jade, Sage, & Mason and daughter Teya of Kilgore, Ne. Numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by father Howard and Mother May. Brother George Luther and wife Helen. Sister LauDell and husband Wilbur Leupold. Brother Jack Luther. Father and Mother in Law, Arnold & Gladys Helm. Sister-in-law Coralee Hauder and Brother-in-law David Eberspacher.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in memory of Bill be directed in care of the family or to donor's choice. Suggestions: Nebraska Childrens Home Society, Great Plains Home Health & Hospice. The Luther Family invites everyone to join our family for food and fellowship in the Fellowship Hall of the Church immediately following the graveside service.
